Commercial & Warehousing

Need help!

Commercial buildings and warehousing facilities operate with constant activity, large storage volumes, and a mix of electrical and mechanical systems that must remain fully functional to support daily operations. As these environments evolve and expand, reliable fire protection becomes essential to safeguard employees, inventory, equipment, and property.

At Viking Fire Protection, we bring decades of experience in designing, installing, and maintaining fire protection systems for commercial and industrial environments across Canada. With 95 years in business and a reputation built on technical expertise and quality service, we understand the fire risks that affect commercial, retail, and warehousing operations and provide solutions engineered for full compliance and long term reliability.

Commercial and Warehousing Fire Risks

These facilities encounter a wide range of fire hazards due to diverse operations, high fuel loads, and constant movement of goods and people. Addressing these risks requires reliable systems designed in accordance with codes, standards, and industry specific challenges.

Storage Configurations
Warehouses often store large volumes of goods at varying heights and densities. These storage conditions and frequent configuration changes can affect sprinkler performance and fire spread, requiring systems designed with proper layout, hydraulic calculations, and coverage in mind. Combustible materials such as packaging, pallets, and stored goods can create elevated fuel loads that accelerate fire growth. Proper fire suppression and early detection are essential to limit damage and downtime.

Electrical Systems
Commercial buildings and warehouses rely on extensive electrical infrastructure to power lighting, conveyors, HVAC equipment, and other operational systems. Electrical faults, overloaded circuits, or equipment failure can trigger fire incidents that disrupt operations and threaten valuable inventory.

High Traffic and Operational Activity
Frequent equipment movement, such as forklifts and automated systems, increases the potential for impact damage, overheating, or mechanical malfunctions that can create fire hazards. Commercial environments also experience steady occupant flow, requiring dependable detection and alarm systems.

Fire Protection Solutions for Commercial and Warehousing Facilities

Fire Suppression Systems

Viking designs and installs suppression systems that meet the requirements of NFPA 13 for sprinkler installation. These systems are maintained according to NFPA 25 to ensure optimal performance, rapid response, and reliable protection of staff, equipment, and inventory.

Fire Extinguishers and Specialized Suppression

Portable extinguishers must be selected, placed, and maintained in accordance with NFPA 10. Viking ensures these devices are properly installed and inspected. For special risk areas, specialized suppression systems can be deployed to address unique hazards within commercial and industrial spaces.

Freezer Building Storage

Freezer storage facilities present unique fire protection challenges due to sub-zero temperatures, high-piled combustible storage, insulated sandwich panel construction, and complex refrigeration systems. To prevent accidental water discharge while ensuring rapid fire response, preaction sprinkler systems are often the preferred solution for these environments. Combined with specialized detection technology and freeze-resistant components, properly engineered preaction systems help protect personnel, preserve valuable inventory, minimize operational disruptions, and ensure compliance with applicable fire protection codes and standards.

Fire Detection and Alarm Systems

Viking provides fire alarm system installation, inspection, and maintenance following CAN ULC S524, CAN ULC S537, and CAN ULC S536. Proper inspection and servicing ensures reliable early warning and code compliant performance across the facility.

As a Premier distributor of NOTIFIER by Honeywell products in multiple regions across Canada, Viking offers advanced addressable and conventional systems, intelligent control panels, and integrated solutions tailored to large or complex facilities.

OUR SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS

We have the solution for your project

Pacific Ridge Business Centre

Pacific Ridge Business Centre

Pacific Ridge Business Centre is a modern multi level commercial development designed to support a range of businesses with flexible spaces, contemporary architecture and efficient access to the surrounding community. The project brings together office, light industrial and commercial uses in an innovative environment built for long term growth.

Viking Fire Protection was responsible for the design, supply and installation of the complete fire protection system for both multi level business centres. Our team delivered coordinated, dependable and code compliant systems to ensure safe operation for all present and future occupants.

Sysco
Sysco Calgary Distribution Centre

The Sysco Calgary Distribution Centre is a major food service warehouse in Alberta, supplying restaurants, healthcare facilities, hotels and many other clients with a wide range of products, including fresh produce, meat, seafood, dairy, frozen items, dry goods and kitchen essentials.

For this warehouse, Viking Fire Protection handled the design and complete installation of fire protection systems, including dry sprinkler, ESFR, pre action systems and Protectowire detection. This work provides Sysco Calgary with a trustworthy and efficient fire safety network that supports the demands of a high volume distribution environment.

Throughout the project, we found that Viking was professional in their design and installation abilities. They worked well with our technicians and helped provide solutions to seamlessly integrate their suppression systems with our existing equipment. We have found them flexible and accommodating in their work as our site is semi-remote and full of sensitive equipment.
