1930

1930 The Company was founded by the Petit brothers under the name of Dominion Sprinkler Ltd.

Incorporated in September 1930, the Company was founded by the Petit brothers under the name of Dominion Sprinkler Ltd. Located in Montreal (Quebec), the Company soon opened an office in Quebec City (Quebec) and quickly became one of the most respected organizations in Eastern Canada.

1960

1965 - The next generation took over under the name of Dominion Viking Sprinkler Co.

The Petit brothers were looking to retire, hoping to reap the fruits of their labors of the past 35 years. After negotiating an agreement with The Viking Corporation, an American Company based in Hastings, Michigan, the next generation took over under the name of Dominion Viking Sprinkler Co. Ltd. Mr. Joseph Owen Petit, one of the Petit Brothers’ son, became the Company’s President.

1969 - On December 31st 1969, Dominion Viking Sprinkler Co. Ltd. merged with Viking Automatic Sprinkler Ltd. of Toronto (Ontario)

Dominion Viking Sprinkler Co. Ltd. merged with Viking Automatic Sprinkler Ltd. of Toronto (Ontario), owned by its American partner. Viking Fire Protection Limited – Protection incendie Viking limitée was born.

1970

1970 - The Company moved to Ville Saint-Laurent (Quebec)

The Company moved to Ville Saint-Laurent (Quebec) where a new production shop was built and new branches were established in Moncton (New Brunswick) and in Ottawa (Ontario).

1980

1981 - Viking Fire Protection Limited acquired the assets of United Sprinkler

Viking Fire Protection Limited acquired the assets of United Sprinkler in St. John’s (Newfoundland and Labrador).

1982 - The Company expanded its market again by acquiring the assets of Eastward Industries

The Company expanded its market again by acquiring the assets of Eastward Industries, a fire protection firm that already had offices in St.John (New Brunswick) and Dartmouth (Nova Scotia).

1984 - Mr. Petit appointed Mr. Jacques Paquette as President.

1987 - The Company's American partner decided to divest itself of its construction operations in North America to focus on manufacturing and distribution of fire protection products

The Company’s American partner decided to divest itself of its construction operations in North America to focus on manufacturing and distribution of fire protection products. Viking Fire Protection Ltd. bought the shares held by this partner with the support of its management personnel. On November 4, 1987, the Company became wholly owned by Canadian investors.

1988 - The Company purchased the shares of a fire prevention contractor in Jonquiere

The Company purchased the shares of a fire prevention contractor, “Guilco”, and began operations in Jonquière (Quebec).

1990

1991 – On May 31, 1991, Viking Fire Protection Inc. was created

On May 31, 1991, the Company reorganized its capital stock and activities. Viking Fire Protection Inc. was created at the same time and the construction-related assets were transferred to this new Company.

1993 – On March 31, 1993, Polygon Fire Protection Inc. was created. It

On March 31, 1993, Polygon Fire Protection Inc. was created. It strictly deals with exports and markets the Company’s fire protection systems worldwide.

 1994 – In February 1994, Mr. René Bélanger was appointed as president and Mr. Jacques Paquette, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In February 1994, during the annual shareholders meeting, Mr. René Bélanger was appointed as president and Mr. Jacques Paquette, Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Petit is still on the Board.

1995 – The Montreal office of Viking Fire Protection Inc. obtained its ISO 9001 certification

Thanks to the combined efforts of the employees and the directors, the Montreal office of Viking Fire Protection Inc. obtained its ISO 9001 certification, an international recognized quality assurance standard.

1996 – Mr. Bélanger assumes the role of both Chairman of the Board and President of the Company

Following the death of Mr. Jacques Paquette, Mr. Bélanger assumes the role of both Chairman of the Board and President of the Company.

1998 - Viking Fire Protection Inc. opened an office in Sherbrooke (Quebec) and acquired the assets of Viking Fire Suppression Ltd.

Viking Fire Protection Inc. opened an office in Sherbrooke (Quebec) and acquired the assets of Viking Fire Suppression Ltd., a Vancouver (British Columbia), the company that also had an office in Calgary (Alberta). The Whistler division then opened in 1999-2000.

1999 - Viking Fire Protection Inc. acquired the assets of Senpar Fire Services Ltd.

Viking Fire Protection Inc. acquired the assets of Senpar Fire Services Ltd., an Edmonton (Alberta) company. Viking Fire Protection Inc. is now well positioned throughout Western Canada.

2000

2001 - Viking Fire Protection Inc. acquires the distribution of fire alarm products Notifier® by Honeywell

Viking Fire Protection Inc. acquires the distribution of fire alarm products Notifier® by Honeywell and thus becomes an authorized agent to distribute this line in Quebec and Nova Scotia.

2002 - On June 24, 2002, Viking Fire Protection Inc. opens a new office in Regina

2003 – In the fall of 2003, Viking Fire Protection Inc. becomes an authorized agent to distribute fire alarm products Notifier® by Honeywell throughout British Columbia territory

2004 – On October 1, 2004, Viking Fire Protection Inc. acquires Protection Incendie Pyro Spec Inc.

On October 1, 2004, Viking Fire Protection Inc. acquires Protection Incendie Pyro Spec Inc., a business partner since January 2002.

2005 – The Inspections & Services division was created at the Montreal office.

The Inspections & Services division was created at the Montreal office. Our new division offers inspection and service to our customers for their special risk sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems and other equipments such as fire extinguishers and emergency lighting.

2007 – Mr. Jean-Pierre Asselin Iis named President

2007 – Mr. René Bélanger, Chairman of the Board of Directors, is happy to announce the appointment of Mr. Jean-Pierre Asselin as President.

2008 - Viking Fire Protection Inc. opens a new office in Winnipeg

2011- In the fall of 2011, Viking Fire Protection Inc. becomes an authorized agent to distribute fire alarm products Notifier® by Honeywell in Ottawa

2013 - Viking Fire Protection is ranked among the Best Employers in Canada and Quebec

2016 - In February 2016, Viking Fire Protection Inc. becomes an authorized agent to distribute fire alarm products Notifier® by Honeywell in Toronto

2020 – Today, Viking is proud to claim its presence from coast to coast with 16 offices

Today, Viking is proud to claim its presence from coast to coast with 16 offices across Canada. The group celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2020.
